The East Anglian derby misery goes on following yesterday’s 1-0 home defeat to Norwich City – that’s nine games without a win against the Canaries in almost nine years. More pertinently, that’s seven defeats in nine across all competitions for the Blues.

All of the goodwill generated by a good start has quickly evaporated. And now the Blues face a tricky run of fixtures. There’s big pressure on Saturday’s trip to struggling Burton. Then comes a midweek match at high-flying Cardiff, followed by the visit of 8th placed Preston.

After the international break, the November schedule is: Hull (a), Sheffield Wednesday (h), Aston Villa (a) and Derby (a).

With six wins and six losses so far, Blues boss Mick McCarthy says he’d take 23 victories and 23 defeats – 69 points, he says, would be ‘borderline play-offs’.
