HAVERHILL skipper Adam Dellar is happy with half his team’s work since joining the elite of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship.

But after two matches and two defeats he said: “We’re doing half the job well at the moment and it is now a case of trying to get both disciplines working on the same day.

“We batted quite well for the first half of our reply at Woolpit, but then collapsed and it was the same again on Saturday.”

The bad news this time was that after dismissing visitors Copdock & OIs for a modest total of 159 Deller’s newly-promoted side was skittled for 53.

“We batted poorly. There was nothing wrong with the pitch, it was just that they bowled straight, we missed and they hit.

“There was poor shot selection and we tried to force the ball when there was no need to do so. We were very confident that we could get 160 and expected to win easily.”

James East (five for 20) and Tom Jenkin (four for 20) did the damage for Copdock.

Earlier Scott Webb had taken four for 32 while there were two wickets each for Dan Poole, Joe Woodley and Raj Singh, who has joined the team this season from Cambridge Granta.

Dellar is glad to welcome ex-England international Chris Silverwood back to his team at Coggeshall on Saturday. It will be his first appearance of the summer while father and son Simon and Luke Youngs are also set to return.

The early front-runners in Division One are Frinton and Mistley, while Mildenhall won on Monday to lead the way on points, which replaces averages to decide league positions this season.

Frinton bowled out Abberton for 132, Jon Ward providing the only real resistance with 83. Jermaine Shillingford (five for 46) and Tom Lawes (three for 15) were the successful bowlers for Frinton.

Trevor Moulton, who played for Brightlingsea last season, led the way to victory with an unbeaten 65 after putting on 120 for the first wicket with Rob Everson (56).

Mistley christened their new pavilion with a five-wicket win over Coggeshall. Kyran Young (74 not out) and Matt Bibby (49 not out) carried the home team past the visitors’ total of 198 to win with five wickets in hand.

Mildenhall chalked up two wins over the weekend. At Clay Hall on Saturday Ben Shepperson’s 117 provided the backbone for a total of 244 for eight, and despite Joe Rusby’s unbeaten 120 in reply Ipswich ended 43 runs short.

Then on Monday Mildenhall had five contributions above 20 for a total of 203 for nine, then restricted Coggeshall to 190 for nine in reply. Will Blackwell (52) and Adrian Stockton (55) kept the home team in the chase with a partnership of 99 until Tymal Mills bowled Blackwell with a slower ball and Stockton was then run out.
