The Aussie teenager missed Saturday’s trip to Rye House where the Witches picked up a 45-all draw, after crashing in heat eight of last Thursday’s clash with Workington.
“It’s been getting better every day and I hope to be riding,” Heeps said.
“Last Thursday and Friday I was in a lot of agony. It’s the scaphoid that I broke last season. It’s not broken again but I don’t think it has ever healed properly. The idea is for me to go with it until the end of October and then have an operation here in England and go back home to Australia.”
Ipswich certainly missed Heeps at Rye House in a meeting they would surely have won with him in the team.
Tonight however, while Plymouth cannot be underestimated, it would be a major surprise should the Devils leave Foxhall with a victory.
The Suffolk side are in great form and Heeps’ contribution this season has been pinnacle to that, upping his average by over a point.
“I’m pleased with my form. I’m pleased I’ve been consistent,” he added.
“I always said I wanted to make it into the main body of the team this season and I’ve done that.
“But one thing we must not do is take Plymouth lightly. That have some very talented riders and a real star in Mikkel Bech.”
The Witches swap Morten Risager and Leigh Lanham around the in the riding order tonight.
It is something they would not have wanted to do but with Risager and Rohan Tungate struggling to team-ride together, it makes sense, with both Lanham and Risager currently in good form anyhow.
