Sudbury had the upper hand for most of the first half, in this match between the bottom two teams.

Bury's defence of Ferrar, Whiting and Grayling worked hard and towards the end of the half worked the ball out to the midfield and forwards, resulting in several chances and short corners for Bury. An assist from Barrow allowed Lofthouse to score from a well worked short.

Sudbury drew level from a short corner after the break.

Bury's midfield of Bedford, O'Neil, Dunger and Barrow worked hard but Sudbury managed to convert a short corner and take the lead for the first time.

Bury's forwards Chapman, Clayton, Toleman and Lofthouse worked well to put pressure on Sudbury's defence, eventually equalising. Another chance was hacked down by Sudbury, resulting in a penalty flick. Barrow's flick was saved by Sudbury's keeper.
