TONY Green, a seven-handicap member at Ipswich Golf Club, is the new Suffolk Mid-Amateur champion with a round of 72 on his home course.
Green, in the third group, set an early target which no-one was able to match. He was therefore a surprise winner of the Jon Marks Cup by a two-shot margin.
Alan Middle of Rushmere, the Suffolk second-team captain, was runner-up with a round of 74. His strong back nine enabled him to push John Maddock of Gorleston into third place on count back.

Fourth place, also on count back, went to Rod Powney of Ufford Park with his 75, a score matched by new Felixstowe Ferry champion Nigel Fosker and David James of Gorleston who did so well in the Suffolk Amateur Championship earlier in the season.
The holder, Steve Crosby of Gorleston , dropped too many shots early on to give himself a realistic chance of retaining his title. The 2005 winner, John Whitby of Fynn Valley, had a seven down the first. In the circumstances his round of 76 was tidy.
