CHRIS BRAMMER looks at how two current Ipswich Town stars fared on their loan debuts for Rotherham United, and also reflects on the performances of a number of other players that left the club permanently in the summer.

Ipswich Town defender Josh Emmanuel made an unhappy start to his temporary stay at Rotherham United, as the Millers were defeated 2-0 at Fleetwood Town in League One.

The 19-year-old defender joined the South Yorkshire club on a season-long loan this summer, although there is an option for the youngster to be recalled in January.

Blues striker Kieffer Moore also signed for the Millers on similar terms and he made his bow as a 68th-minute substitute at Highbury Stadium.

Elsewhere, Brett Pitman’s Portsmouth career got off to a flying start, the striker, allowed to leave by Blues boss Mick McCarthy in the summer, scoring both goals in Pompey’s 2-0 victory over Rochdale, at Fratton Park.

Steven Taylor, who wasn’t offered a new deal after being on trial in the summer, started for Peterborough in their 2-1 home win over Plymouth Argyle, whilst Paul Digby was a 77th-minute substitute in Mansfield’s 2-2 draw at Crewe, having been released by Town this summer.

It was a bad day for the office in Scotland for Christophe Berra, as the former Blues stalwart was part of the Hearts team, hammered 4-1 at Celtic on the opening day of the SPL.

Berra could have been coming up against former Ipswich youngster, Kundai Benyu, but the 19-year-old midfielder, signed by Celtic in the summer, failed to make the bench.
