Suffolk trail Bedfordshire by 132 runs after the first day’s play at Flitwick Cricket Club.

And the home side duly amassed a respectable total of 226 all out, let by 46 runs from Luke Thomas and a further 43 from Ben Slawinski.

For Suffolk, Hugo Douglas once again impressed with the ball, taking six wickets for 39 runs in his 13 overs, while Jake Wakelin added two for 40 runs, and James Poulson claimed one for 48.

In reply, Suffolk closed on 94 for four. Opening pairing Martyn Cull and Jaik Mickleburgh combined for 47 runs, Mickleburgh falling first with 23 to his name, significantly less than he’s managed in many of his innings in what has been a sparkling season with the bat.

Cull made 24 before departing lbw, while Darren Ironside added 22 and Michael Comber 10. Ben Shepperson was on nine and Douglas on four at close of play.
