The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international has completed a medical with the Tigers after both clubs agreed a fee. Now only the final touches are needed to complete a deal to re-sign a player who spent four months on loan at the KC Stadium last season.
Manager Phil Brown said: “Fingers crossed - we are nearly there but we are not there. I'm hoping that it is all done and dusted by 10 o'clock on Wednesday morning.”
McShane made 17 appearances for the Tigers last term before being recalled by the Black Cats in January.

Brown added: “I think he is well known and well liked - the heart-on-the-sleeve, never-say-die attitude whether he is wearing a Hull, Sunderland or Ireland shirt.
“He can only be an asset because of what he did in the first few months of last season. He then watched from afar his team-mates struggling to survive in the Premier League but now we have, I think that is one of the reasons why he wanted to come back.”

McShane made only three first-team appearances after returning to Sunderland and now does not appear to feature in the first-team plans of new manager Steve Bruce.
He is currently out of action with a knee injury but has been pencilled in for a possible Hull debut against old club Sunderland on September 12.
The versatile McShane will fill a void at right-back created by the departure of Sam Ricketts this summer.
Because of the impending deal, Brown has now ended his interest in Bosnian right-back Sanel Jahic, who was due to play for the reserves tomorrow.
