Ipswich East Suffolk 1 Sudbury 2

A potentially fierce local derby turned into a more subtle affair at the Copleston Centre on Saturday. IES fielded a first choice team and started in search of morale boosting win, however, after losing Bendall within five minutes of the start, a tame first half saw chances go begging for IES. These included two harshly disallowed penalty corners, one adjudged to be too high and one scrubbed off for a foot by Tingey.

Sudbury rarely threatened the IES goal, with makeshift left back Aveling slotting in to cover Bendall's injury. Mayhew dominated the midfield for IES and launched many an attack, but to no avail.

The second half was a brighter affair with IES taking a deserved lead through David Taylor, who made it 15 goals for the season with a flick over the advancing Sudbury keeper. However, IES suffered from two lapses in concentration in defence. Firstly, a cross from the left beat Lane and the Sudbury centre forward slipped the ball into the roof of the net. Five minutes later, a similar ball beat the defence and Sudbury took the lead.

IES travel to Norwich City on Saturday (UEA 1pm) looking for three points to boost confidence.
