IES welcomed the league leaders to Copleston, hoping to hold the Cambridgeshire side to at least a draw if not take the win. Welcoming back Marshlain, Mayhew and Aveling, IES were looking strong. Unfortunately, Marshlain dislocated a finger in the warm up so the home side started with only 12 available.
Peterborough took the lead in the first half with a neatly deflected goal but IES rallied and won several penalty corners which were dealt with easily before they were awarded a penalty flick. Brown stepped up from the back but his tame effort was palmed away by the visiting keeper. IES also had another valid shout for a flick turned away by the umpire and headed into the break one down.
Not long into the second half and IES fell further behind as poor defending and keeping allowed Peterborough's centre forward time to turn and shoot with ease. This spurred a now depleted IES, who had Cole off with a groin injury, into life. Mayhew, running the show in midfield pulled a goal back with a fine open play drilled effort before the same player dealt well with a misplaced corner ejection and smashed the ball home.
IES settled for a draw, despite some late rallying when the visitors were on the rack. The Ipswich side travel to Dereham to face their second XI this weekend.
