NE14 Hockey East League

Division 1N

Ipswich East Suffolk 2 Colchester 2

This was a hard fought match that IES will have felt they had lost rather than drawn.

The game set off at a swift pace with the midfield combination of captain Linda Rose and Shelley Pleasence providing the vital link between defence and attack, well supported by Claire Pearsons who had an outstanding afternoon of hockey.

It was inevitable from this build up of pressure that IES would earn themselves a penalty corner and from a well rehearsed routine Ellie Mason's shot sounded a thud into the Colchester goal.

At the other end, stand-in keeper Anne Edney made several critical saves to keep the Ipswich side ahead and not long after, an exquisite pass from Pleasence to Annette White produced the second goal.

The second half saw IES sit back and welcome a number of attacks from a strong and determined Colchester side resulting in first one goal and then a penalty flick that keeper Edney had no chance against.

Although disappointed by the result, IES can be pleased with their continued movement up the league table and look forward to the trip to Watton next week.
