SHA Premier Division
Ipswich East Suffolk II 0 Haverhill 1
Ipswich East Suffolk narrowly lost to a Haverhill side that have still not lost all season.
IES started much the brighter side on a frosty Copleston pitch, with Thorpe and Collinson making welcome returns to the side.
Playing neat, short hockey, IES put pressure on the strong Haverhill defence, but were unable to capitalise on some good attacks.
Haverhill attacks were kept to a minimum, with strong defensive play from the IES defence, however Haverhill scored after being rewarded with a penalty corner.
Another corner was well saved by Collinson in the IES goal as the hosts continued to play some confident hockey.
Just before half time the Haverhill keeper made a fine save from a well-struck corner strike from Claxton.
The second half saw IES camp in the Haverhill half with Collinson in the IES goal not touching the ball. Simpson and Claxton went close to equalising but, despite the battling performance, Haverhill went home with the points.
An excellent all-round team performance which, if carried over to next week, should see IES give the visiting Harwich team another hard fought game.
