IES Men's 3 Cambridge University III 1

WELCOMING the students of Cambridge to Copleston this weekend, IES gained another scalp as they sought to get their season back on track. Following the previous week's narrow victory over Norwich Dragons, IES called up defender Simon Holland for his first 11 debut after good showings in the seconds all season. With Pettit missing, Mayhew and Francis returned to side which on paper was fairly strong for the home side.

IES took control of the first half, peppering the University goal with efforts from Cole, Tingey and Aveling. IES took the lead through centre forward Cole who fired home a penalty corner that bobbled past the visiting keeper. The University had many penalty corner chances but these were dealt with well by Lane and defenders Short, Brown, Holland and Mayhew.

IES changed their line up after the break, but this led to some uncertainty. This resulted in the University forward receiving a quick ball across the D who rounded Lane to level the game up. However, this spurred IES back into form and the influential Cole was on hand to score a stunning individual effort as he rifled the ball below the University keeper for 2-1. Aveling wrapped up the win with a scrambled effort late in the half to secure a 3-1 win.

IES' man of the match was Carl Short for his outstanding defending.
