ENGLAND finished day one of the First Test against India in Chennai on 229 for five.Andrew Strauss led the way with 123 and Essex's Alastair Cook made 52 as they put on 118 for the first wicket.

Andrew Strauss led the way with 123 and Essex's Alastair Cook made 52 as they put on 118 for the first wicket.

After reaching 180 for two England lost three further wickets before the close, with Andrew Flintoff (18) and James Anderson (2) the not out batsmen.
