Ipswich 4 Sandy & Shefford 0

IPSWICH took a major step towards retaining the league title and gained revenge for a defeat earlier in the season with a win over their nearest rivals Shefford & Sandy.

The encounter was no stroll in the park however, and the difference on the day was the Ipswich finishing. Shefford started well and were soon on top, Steward as always was on top form and pulled off a brilliant save to deny the visitors.

Ipswich gradually cam more into the game and took the lead, Askins went on one of his typical mazy runs and planted a rasping shot past the bemused keeper. In fact the visitors keeper was as usual performing to the highest level as a string of shots were saved. Ironically a rather scrappy cross was turned in by Tew to increase the lead.

The second half began with Ipswich in confident mood, and as Shefford pushed forward it was creating more space for Ipswich to counter at speed and create more scoring chances; midway through the half in just such a move Cutting was on hand to crash home with the Shefford defence in disarray, and in the final quarter Foster received reward for his hard working display as he converted from a narrow angle.

Next week sees another difficult encounter with old rivals Chelmsford.
