Ipswich-based athlete Anton Dixon finished joint-seventh in the Long Jump at the Canadian Track & Field Championships, in Ottawa, on Saturday.
Dixon, who was born in Canada but moved to Suffolk as an eight-year-old, has a personal best jump of 7.43 metres, but failed to trouble that in Ottawa, his best jump being his third attempt of 7.07.
The former Westbourne School pupil, who was brought up on the Whitton estate, tried out for the Olympics in 2016 and is targeting a place at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, as well as next year’s Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, in Australia.
The event was won by 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, Damian Warner, the 27-year-old having also won bronze in the decathlon at last year’s Olympic Games in Rio.
Dixon only took up the Long Jump in 2015 and trains in London with respected coach John Herbert.
