Ipswich moved to 8-0 in NBL Division Two with another dominant display at Copleston on Sunday against Nottingham Trent Wildcats.

Ipswich were again in unstoppable offensive form, scoring 121 points, including a season high 45 from Harriet Welham.

However, their defence was not up to the usual high standards, giving up a season worse 77 points.

Ipswich won the first quarter 28-19, and then erupted in the second period scoring an impressive 40 points. However, due to the high paced Ipswich offence, Nottingham were able to take advantage of extra possessions, scoring 25in the period themselves – the most by any team against the Suffolk side this season.

The third quarter saw Ipswich clearly tighten their belts defensively, holding the Wildcats to just 14 in the quarter, while keeping the pressure up – scoring 29 more to take the lead to 97-58.

The fourth, saw both teams continue to play hard as Ipswich quickly reached the 100-point mark, while Nottingham, behind the hot shooting of Vicky Grey and smart point guard play of Brae Ashton, also found baskets easy to come by.

Ipswich would run out comfortable winners against a team that are still in search of their first league win.

“I imagine this was a good game to watch….. a free scoring high paced game,” Head Coach Nick Drane admitted.

“As a coach I was delighted with our offensive execution, we were understrength today but were still able to dominate the game.

“Defensively, it wasn’t so good and we will certainly be putting some work in this week to put that right.

“I can’t understand Nottingham’s league position. They are a very good team, with some major scoring power – they are a very competitive team.”

Ipswich were led by Welham’s 45, Ashleigh Pink connected a season high 28 points, including six three pointers, while Danni Cazey added 20.

Ipswich have a double header this weekend as they travel away to Mansfield on Saturday before hosting Nottingham again on Sunday.
