Ipswich East Suffolk Hockey Club Ladies’ first team are celebrating promotion after seeing off old rivals Norwich City.
The side went into the clash – their last game of the season – knowing that a win would see them go up from East Division 2NE.
And in a very tight and tense game played out at the impressive and immaculate Ipswich School Sports Centre, IES secured a 2-0 victory, sparking scenes of delight, both on the pitch and a packed touchline.
Captain Abi Elsom said: “This is a huge moment for Ipswich East Suffolk Hockey Club Ladies Section as this is the first time in our history that they will be playing next season in Division 1 of the East Leagues and is testament to the hard work and effort put in by the squad and the ladies section as a whole.
“My thanks go to the players and supporters who have made this season very special. Finally, we must say a huge thank you to our coach, Sam Beveridge.”
