Two Ipswich karate kids are aiming for national selection after both winning at the JSKA UK Open Championships.

Mia Lam, 13 and her brother Viktor, 10, both won a gold and silver each at the Ash Manor Sports Centre in Surrey. The ferocious pair overcame five fights each to win their respective age groups, and are now targeting an England call-up.

Proud mum and mentor, Rebecca, said: “They were brilliant, this was testament to all the hard work that they’ve put in. “Now all they can do is turn up to training, keep winning, and hopefully make the England team.”

Despite their tender years, Mia first got involved in Japanese Karate eight years ago, whilst her younger brother was just five.

“Their uncle is a karate instructor, so we just took them down on the off chance. They loved it, now my husband and my youngest daughter have taken it up,” said Mrs Lam.
