IPSWICH School were comprehensively outplayed in the final as Belper retained their title by winning the girls' under 16 final 3-0 at the National Indoor Hockey Championships.

In a game which started scrappily, Belper had the upper hand but couldn't make a series of penalty corners and a penalty stroke count.

The best of the early chances fell to Belper's number nine Sophie Hawkins but Felicity Last in the Ipswich goal denied her to keep the scores level.

It looked like the stalemate would remain until the interval, but an excellent run and cross by Ellie Green from the right found Anna Toman for the simplest of finishes to give the holders the lead.

On the stroke of half time, Belper doubled their advantage as captain Alice Sharp scored from their fifth penalty corner of the half.

In a quiet second period, the only score came from Sophie Hawkins after good passing from her Belper teammates at a penalty corner opened up the shooting chance.

Ipswich fought back, winning a trio of penalty corners, but at each Sabbie Heesh in the Belper goal was equal to the Suffolk side's attempts.
