Sports writer Andy Warren hands out his player grades from Ipswich Town’s disappointing home draw with Burton.
Bartosz Bialkowski
Did well to save from former Blue Darren Bent in the second half and did superbly well to keep a late header, which looked to have come off the head of Luke Chambers, out of the net with an excellent save and ultimately secure Town’s point. 7
Jordan Spence
A shaky afternoon for the right back who, like his team-mates, gave the ball away cheaply on a number of occasions. The right back did make a couple of good interceptions in the first half, though. He has got forward well in recent weeks but none of that was in evidence this afternoon. 5
Cameron Carter-Vickers
Kept his place ahead of Adam Webster, who stayed on the bench, and proved McCarthy’s selection right. He made a number of good interceptions and blocks on the ground and used the ball well when in possession. 7
Luke Chambers
Another decent performance from the skipper, who put his body on the line on a number of occasions to make key blocks and largely kept Bent and the Burton forwards quiet. 6
Jonas Knudsen
Usually so consistent but this was a long way from being one of the Dane’s best displays. He struggled in possession and gave the ball away time and again, all while lacking his usual physical approach. 5
Cole Skuse
Signed a new contract in midweek but wasn’t able to celebrate that with a win. Still looks like he is getting over the ankle injury which kept him out for a month as he struggled in possession and lacked bite in the tackle. 5
Callum Connolly
No shortage of effort but he was not at his best on an afternoon where the Blues were unable to win the midfield battle prior to his departure. He lacked his usual punch in the tackle and wasn’t able to provide any kind of drive forward. 5
Grant Ward
Was arguably the Blues’ best player in the win at Sunderland but was unable to repeat the trick. Couldn’t find much forward momentum in the first half and didn’t link well with Spence, but did find himself in good positions in the second before being withdrawn. 5
Martyn Waghorn
His goalless run now ticks on to 12 games, heading into next weekend’s clash with Norwich. Had one effort that flashed wide but never really threatened. Some neat touches and decent set-pieces, though. 6
Bersant Celina
The Manchester City loanee always looks to put his best foot forward, but it simply didn’t happen for the Kosovan. He did try and run at the Burton defence but regularly lost possession up the field and left Knudsen exposed. 5
Joe Garner
A superb performance at Sunderland backed up by an average one against Burton. At the Stadium of Light he brought others into the game and started attacks for the Blues, but that was not in evidence today and he spent much of the afternoon isolated and never threatened goal. 5
Stephen Gleeson (for Connolly, 60)
Came into the Ipswich Town engine room but wasn’t able to either create or take the game by the scruff of the neck. 5
Mustapha Carayol (for Ward, 60)
A good start for the new signing as he offered forward movement and dangerous running. Sent a shot just wide which clipped the side netting. 7
