Bartosz Bialkowski

Took an almighty whack from Mile Jedinak in the early minutes of the game but, after being clearly winded, recovered well to make a string of good saves. Little he could have done with any of the four goals. 6

Jordan Spence

Made a good early clearance from Grabban and got forward well during the first half while playing on the right side of the back three before switching to right back following Ward’s red card. 6

Cameron Carter-Vickers

Looked to be enjoying the physical battle with Lewis Grabban throughout the first half but began to be beaten by the former Norwich man in the second. His loose pass played a part in Villa’s third, although Skuse could have done more to help him out on that occasion. 5

Jonas Knudsen

It proved to be a difficult afternoon for the Ipswich Town backline but Knudsen played well for much of the game. He put in a more physical display than he has of late but found things tougher when the Blues switched to a back four from a central three. 6

Grant Ward

Scampered up and down the right flank for much of the first half, with his final ball often lacking. Perhaps unfortunate to be shown a straight red card for a genuine attempt to get the ball, but his actions gave the referee a decision to make. 5

Myles Kenlock

Sliced an early effort wide with what ultimately proved to be the Blues’ best chance of the afternoon. With 11 men on the field the Blues were able to work Kenlock into space down the left where he linked up well with Celina, but Ward’s red card meant these opportunities became limited. 5

Cole Skuse

Looked to enjoy a little bit more freedom in the middle of the Ipswich midfield for much of the early part of the game, as he moved the ball around well and looked to move play forward. But like so many he found things tougher after Ward’s red. Could perhaps have come to meet Carter-Vickers’ pass and prevent the third. 6

Tristan Nydam

The young midfielder played with confidence inside the opening half an hour as he played a number of good passes, got into the box well and made one calm, assured clearance inside his own box. Looked to be feeling the pace when he was replaced in the second period. 6

Luke Hyam

Solid enough in midfield but didn’t offer an awful lot in the attacking third prior to being replaced. Still waiting for his future at Portman Road to be resolved. 5

Bersant Celina

When the Blues are on the front foot the Manchester City loanee always looks bright but the end product wasn’t there. Played one good, scooped pass to create something for Ward in the first period but faded before being replaced. 5

Martyn Waghorn

A tough task got harder for Waghorn following Ward’s dismissal. He looked isolated at times even when the Blues had 11 men, as the gap between him and midfield widened, and that only increased once Ward was dismissed. His effort can’t be faulted but there were few moments of quality. 5

Freddie Sears (for Celina 56)

Still looking for that elusive goal and, despite a couple of moments when he was able to open his legs and run at defenders, never looked like the day he would find the net. A number of poor touches went astray. 5

Callum Connolly (for Nydam 72)

Came into midfield for a tired-looking Nydam but wasn’t able to stamp a mark on the game. 5

Ben Folami (for Hyam, 76)

A couple of bright moments from the young striker but he wasn’t able to have the impact he managed against Millwall. 6
