Ipswich Town v Blackburn nostalgia: Bontcho sparks brilliant Blues recovery

In this week’s Ipswich Town nostalgia, we look back to December 1992, when Town came from behind to beat Blackburn 2-1 at Portman Road, thanks to goals from Bontcho Guentchev and Chris Kiwomya.
Bontcho Guentchev and Chris Kimoya sparked a Town comeback as the Blues came from behind to beat Blackburn 2-1 at Portman Road on Monday, December 28, 1992.
The Blues had the better of a goalless first-half and produced some great moves that went unrewarded, but at one point Town looked in real danger of losing their proud unbeaten home record that season.
The visitors took the lead in the 73rd minute when Tim Sherwood laid the ball off for Roy Wegerle, who fired right footed low into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
But the Blues equalised six minutes later when Gavin Johnson crossed for Bulgarian international Guentchev to score with
an overhead kick.
Just over a minute later, Kiwomya won the game for Town as Rovers’ keeper Bobby Mimms punched clear, Jason Dozzell lobbed the ball forward and Kiwomya saw his chance to lob the keeper and score his seventh league goal of the season.
