PORTMAN Road has experienced much over the many years it has been staging football.
But on Monday there was a first when a five-a-side league game being played on the artificial surface that adjoins the stadium had to be stopped after a swan landed gracefully on to the pitch.
When the swan decided to ‘spread its wings’ and wander about it caused the referee to stop the game and move to the next door pitch.
The swan eventually contended itself by taking up a position beside the touchline as the game continued.
