PAUL Jewell has called on his players to crank up the noise.

The Ipswich Town manager has claimed that the current crop of Blues are one of the quietest he has ever worked with, as he contemplates who to pick as captain.

Both Grant Leadbitter and Lee Bowyer have led the side out during the first three pre-season friendlies but Jewell doesn’t see who should have the armband next season as a big dilemma.

He said: “The choice of skipper is not a big issue but as a squad, we are a quiet team. They are one of the quietest teams I have worked with to be honest and it is something that we have been working on since we got here.

“Naturally a lot of the players are quiet lads and we’re trying to drag that out of them. To get them upbeat and noisy because you want leaders on the pitch.”
