BOLTON duo Heidar Helguson and Nicky Hunt have joined the list of potential signings as Jim Magilton looks to bolster his squad.

With the transfer deadline looming the Blues boss is looking to secure at least two players before next Monday.

Moritz Volz and Shola Ameobi still look the most likely, although Ameobi would most probably not arrive until next month in loan deal from Newcastle once his hamstring injury has cleared up.

We revealed Town turned to Ameobi again earlier this month and that came after they had a £1.8m bid for Slovenian international Milivje Novakovic rejected by FC Cologne.

Although Town made the offer almost a month ago, FC Cologne chairman Michael Meier only released the information that he turned down a written offer from Ipswich to the German media over the weekend.

That may encourage Town to try once more before Monday's deadline with the Bundesliga club appearing to drum up interest in order to raise the fee, despite assurances they do not want to sell.

It is a similar scenario with Cardiff's Roger Johnson as Peter Ridsdale revealed they had offers for him and Joe Ledley but don't need to sell - unless it is the right price of course.

Magilton is keen to secure a defender and a forward first and is hoping Fulham defender Volz will make his mind up to join Town today.

If not, he may take advantage of the references Iván Campo has been giving his former Bolton team-mates. The 6'1'' defender Hunt has played all of his career at Wanderers but has been used sparingly by Gary Megson, being an unused sub in their two Premier League games this season.

Helguson has battled back from injury but is not part of Megson's plans and after joining them from Fulham last season, made just six league appearances, scoring twice.

He had surgery on an ankle injury in May and is working his way back to full fitness, which may prompt Bolton to let him out on loan as he still has almost two years left on his current contract.

The former Lillestrom striker, signed by Graham Taylor in 1999, made his name at Watford and his 20 goals in 2004/05 attracted Premiership interest with Fulham taking him.

Town could also look to hijack Norwich's bid to sign former Spurs striker Stefan Iversen.
