Bontcho Guentchev grabbed his last goal in an Ipswich shirt as the Blues picked up three points at Queen’s Park Rangers – Town emerging 2-1 winners at Loftus Road.
The popular Bulgarian international, capped 12 times by his country, struck five minutes after the break to put the Blues into a commanding two-goal lead, home defender Steve Yates having scored an own goal in the first half to set the visitors on their way.
England international Les Ferdinand grabbed a late consolation for the west London club, but the points belonged to the Blues.
Guentchev went on to play 16 more games for the Blues that season, without scoring, as Ipswich were relegated to the second tier.
After leaving Portman Road, Guentchev moved to Luton Town where he went on to score 12 goals in 74 appearances for the Hatters, before drifting into the English non-league scene, via a prolific spell at CSKA Sofia in his homeland.
