Cameron Stewart is champing at the bit to terrorise rival Championship defences this season, having given the Blues’ rearguard a few headaches already.

The 23-year-old winger was unveiled to the media at the club’s training ground yesterday after signing a three-year deal with the Blues.

Recently-relegated Fulham are the visitors to Portman Road on the opening day and Stewart is hoping to get off to a winning start and re-create the form he showed against Ipswich, for Charlton and Leeds, during loan spells last season.

“The manager said he was impressed by my performances and I would like to think that was because a lot of our attacks at Charlton probably came through me and I liked to get wide,” said Stewart, who scored against Town for Hull in an FA Cup victory for the Tigers in 2012.

“I think he also saw that I try to be positive and run at players and I am not afraid to have a go.

“I hope to be here for the long term, hope to enjoy my football and hopefully make the side better.

He added: “It’s a tough start. Fulham on the opening day won’t be easy, but they will be in transition and hopefully we will be ready and raring to go.”

Stewart is Town’s third permanent signing of the summer after Alex Henshall and Stephen Hunt.

Both are left-sided players and will be expected to battle it out with Stewart for a place out wide.

Former Manchester City youngster Henshall, in particular, has been challenged by boss Mick McCarthy to make a name for himself next season.

“Alex has exceptional pace and a wand of a left foot, it’s about shaking those shackles off now,” said McCarthy.

“Sometimes players can be in environments where it’s nice and safe, where they are never going to play.

“He’s going to be under pressure here to play and it is totally different to being in the under-21s.”
