Town stormed into an early lead when skipper Curtley Williams scored his first goal of the season from an Ed Upson corner.
Liam Barrett coverted a Williams flick in the 12th minute and the third goal came just before half time when Ollie Fenn's surging run was finished from the edge of the box by man of the match Upson.
The second half was something of an anti-climax with Craig Calver hitting a post for Town and in the closing seconds Ryan James scored a consolation for the Lions.
