IPSWICH Town have called 15-year-old striker Connor Wickham into the first team squad travelling to Coventry City.

The Academy player has been promoted after impressing at youth and reserve team level but it is not expected he will play at the Ricoh stadium.

It is more likely the Colchester schoolboy will use the trip as a way of building up experience of being around the first team as part of his development.

Should Wickham make a first team appearance at any point before the end of the season he will beat Jason Dozzell's record as the youngest ever player after he made his debut at 16 years and 57 days.

With Alex Bruce, Ben Thatcher and Owen Garvan all suspended, Iván Campo is also named in the squad, while Pim Balkestein is ready to step in at left back as David Wright is doubtful with a hamstring strain.
