FORMER Ipswich Town defender George Clarke has died aged 89.
He played his first game for the club in the 1946/47 season and his last in 1952/53 making 37 appearances in total and scoring one goal.
While living in Burrell Road he used to walk to Portman Road for home games and spent his latter years living on Chantry Estate having worked for Manganese Bronze and partaking in football and cricket into his forties.
He was a regular at Ipswich player reunions until a few years ago.
