DAMIEN Delaney has been named in Giovanni Trapattoni’s provisional squad for the Republic of Ireland’s friendly against Croatia.
The Ipswich centre back is in the 32-man squad for the August 10 friendly – a day after Town’s first round Carling Cup match against Northampton.
It seems likely that Delaney, who has five international caps, will meet up with the Ireland squad with Jewell expected to make changes for the cup tie, which falls between the first two Championship games.
Announcing the squad, Trapatonni said: “Following on from our last successful trip with four wins behind us, this game will be an important decider ahead of our next Euro 2012 qualifier game versus Slovakia on September 2.
“Many players will be given the opportunity to shine against a very strong opposition. Croatia are currently ranked 8th in FIFA’s World Rankings and will undoubtedly be a tough match for us.”
