GARETH McAuley has signed for West Brom on a free transfer.

McAuley turned down the offer of a new contract at Ipswich Town, towards the end of last season, opting instead to leave as a free agent.

The 31-year-old Northern Ireland international had been attracting the interest of Scottish Premier Division champions Rangers, but has chosen to move up to the English Premier League with the Baggies instead.

Baggies boss Roy Hodgson said: “We believe it is the right moment for Gareth to embark on a Premier League career after doing so well for so long in the Championship, and in the national team.”

McAuley signed for Town from Leicester City for a 1.5m fee three years ago.
