But manager Roy Keane will also probably be in the market for a new centre-half, following Damien Delaney’s recent long-term injury and fellow defender Alex Bruce’s likely departure from Portman Road this summer.
The transfer-listed Bruce has been linked with a switch to Championship rivals Sheffield United.
The experienced Finnan, 34, is a free agent following his release from relegated Premier League club Portsmouth, which means that fellow Irishman Keane would be able to recruit him on a free transfer.
