Former Ipswich Town striker Connor Wickham has signed for the Championship’s bottom club Sheffield Wednesday on a youth loan until the new year.

The 20-year-old departed Portman Road for Sunderland for around £8m in 2011, but has struggled to make an impact at The Stadium of Light, scoring just four times in 40 appearances for the Black Cats.

Colchester-born Wickham, who made his debut for Town as a 16-year-old, scored 15 goals in 72 appearances for Ipswich before securing his switch to the top-flight.

He enjoyed a similar spell at Hillsborough last season, making six appearances and scoring one goal as the Owls survived the drop to League One.
