Fuller Flavour: Never mind the opposition, results are all that counts!

Today’s column was penned before Saturday’s game at Barnsley – but I’m told we came from behind for a third straight win!
Without getting too carried away, it has certainly been a good start to the season. Never mind the opposition, just the mere fact that we could celebrate three wins in our first three games is progress. After all, we had to wait until April last season to win two in a row!
There was plenty happening last week to mull over. Let’s start with the bad news that was confirmation of the seriousness of the injury sustained by Andre Dozzell. Along with all Town fans, I am absolutely gutted that Andre will now miss the rest of the season.
It must be around three years ago now that Town academy coach Steve Foley had so many good things to say about what was then, a star in the making.
Ever since I heard those words, I have been waiting in anticipation for a second Dozzell to light up my Saturday afternoons again.

It looked like that this season could have proved to be his breakthrough season. I don’t know if you’ll read this Andre but I wish you all the very best in your recovery.
On the plus side, when Andre is fit enough to return to the side, he will only be 19 and have so much of his career ahead of him. Plenty of time for that promise to shine through.

On Thursday we learnt that Adam Webster will be out for around a month with an ankle injury. We really have had so much bad luck with injuries over the last two or three years and I hope that we are getting all our injuries out of the way now as too many more will be a hit on our small squad.
Last Monday saw the signing of Martyn Waghorn. Ever since his Leicester City days, whenever I’ve seen his name on the scoresheet either there or at Rangers, I have wondered whether he would one day be a potential signing for us.
I am very happy with this signing and he teams up again with Joe Garner. We’ve now got at least a couple of forwards that can get us back among the goals that we were short of last season.
Then on Tuesday night was the minor miracle of winning a cup match and by all accounts, it was a deserved win too. What was a really pleasing added bonus was the performances of further Academy players.
We already know what Flynn Downes can offer and the performances of Luke Woolfenden and Tristan Nydam gave plenty to look forward to over the coming few months and once players such as Emyr Huws, Teddy Bishop and Tom Adeyemi are fit to return, Mick is going to have a few selection headaches.
As he will too with our striker options. I’ve already mentioned Garner and Waghorn but how can you leave David McGoldrick out of the side when he is fully fit and on top of his game?
His two goals at Luton, plus his strike at Barnsley, will give him added confidence and he would be in my starting XI all the time.
We’ll go to Millwall tomorrow night full of confidence and the game provides an excellent opportunity to build on the feel-good factor that might just be building up again.
I think that we have already had a bit more to smile about this season than much of last season and much of that is down to a few signings, the breakthrough of the youngsters and an apparent change of style in our play.
It’s still about the results of course. They are the bottom line and whilst they keep coming in a positive manner, then we’ll all be happy.
