Ipswich v Millwall: Ipswich Town got their home campaign off to a flying start in the Championship with a solid 3-0 victory against Millwall.

After a goalless first half, unfortunate Lions’ defender Shane Lowry put through his own net to give the hosts the lead, before Tommy Smith doubled the Blues’ lead with a firm header from a corner.

New-boy Paul Anderson added a third late on to put the gloss on a good performance.

Saturday also marked Sir Bobby Robson Day with the FA using the late, great manager’s name to promote a series of events across the country.

Fittingly, all three of Town’s second half goals came in front of the Sir Bobby Robson Stand at Portman Road as Town overcame defeats at Reading and Stevenage to kick-start their campaign.

“I think Sir Bobby might like a bit more silky football, but he’d have taken a 3-0 win,” said McCarthy, who was Robson’s managerial rival when the duo were at Sunderland and Newcastle respectively.
