OWEN Garvan has revealed he is in no rush to sign a new deal with Ipswich Town and has batted the decision back into the club's court.

The Blues offered Garvan a new deal earlier this year but he was not happy with some aspects and his representatives asked for some changes in the offer, to which they have not yet had a response.

Garvan said: “I'm just waiting for the club to get back to me.”

The Republic of Ireland international confirmed he had not made mind up and won't be rushed into committing himself at Portman Road, with Premier League clubs understood to be monitoring his situation.

Garvan said: “I'm happy at the moment. I have a year left on my contract so I'm not in a great rush anyway.

“We will see what happens when the club get back to me.”

The 20-year-old was made captain for the second half of the Blues' friendly at Glentoran, an honour he enjoyed as Town went on to win 3-1, but not one that would sway his decision.

Garvan said “It was a bit of a surprise but the armband has been handed around a few players now.

“The manager wants to use different people so it was nice for me to get it for a short while.

“It's an honour and I'm sure all the players would be keen to take it, even the new players, but at the end of the day it is just an armband right now.”

Garvan has shown he can be a goal threat as well as creator from midfield and has not been afraid to try the spectacular at times.

He said: “You can try things you would not normally in these matches. We are using different players and trying different formations.

“We can mix up the game and I have been trying to get forward more as I want to score more goals.

“Tommy Miller does it well from midfield and my target is to get more this season.

“We are looking for more goals from everywhere really, even defenders, because we can't rely on just Alan, Jon and Pablo.”

The Blues, who take on Tiptree United tonight, then have West Brom and West Ham at home with Brighton away squeezed in between, before the season opener against Preston at Portman Road on August 9.

Garvan said: “Pre-season is going well. We have been getting results, which is nice and we are getting fitness for the start of the season.

“Everyone is getting a run out, even the young lads, and it is good for the manager to see who is doing well and has come back ready for the new season.”

The Blues ran the rule over Czech Republic defender Roman Hubnik in Ipswich's friendly at Gillingham last night.

The 24-year-old central defender, who captained the Czechs in the Under 21 European Championship finals last summer and the 2007 World Cup side, currently plays for FC Moscow, who he joined from Sigma Olomouc.
