Huws, who had been recovering from a serious Achilles injury suffered in pre-season, completed the full 90 minutes for Gerard Nash’s side.

Town’s first chance of the game came through great link up play between the front three. Ben Morris played Monty Patterson down the right channel and his cutback found Ben Folami, who turned and shot wide.

Town were fortunate not to be behind just before half time. Colchester striker Eoin McKeown found himself one on one after a mistake from George Fowler but with just Crowe to beat, his shot cannoned off the post.

In an even first half with few chances, the returning Huws showed no signs of rustiness and put in a tidy performance in a slightly deeper role than he may have been used to.

Six minutes after the restart and Town took the lead. Patterson raced on to a Folami through ball and drilled his shot past Wilks to make it 1-0 to the Blues.

- Mick: It’s about trusting CelinaIt could have been 2-0 just a matter of seconds later. Morris found himself through on goal down the left wing following a lucky deflected pass but he hesitantly shot straight at the keeper. Just over an hour had gone when Huws showed his quality, dispatching a beautiful floated through ball to Patterson but the New Zealand international wasted the opportunity with a poor cross. The U’s had themselves a few half chances late in the second half and were level around eight minutes from time when Tommy O’Sullivan skipped past the Town back line and curled his shot excellently into the top left corner. - Rotherham expect Town to recall Kieffer Moore

Mick McCarthy will be delighted to see Huws complete his first 90 minutes in almost six months, having already suggested he may be available for selection for this Saturday’s game against Preston North End at Portman Road.

His match fitness will come into question but on today’s showing, he would be worthy of a place on the bench, providing a huge boost for the Blues.
