Huddersfield v Ipswich: Mick McCarthy would be happy with a point from Ipswich Town’s visit to out-of-form Huddersfield tomorrow.

The Blues are likely to face a backlash from Mark Robins’ Terriers, who have won just one of their previous 16 league games and lost 6-1 at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

The game has extra significance as it pits Ipswich, currently three points clear of the relegation zone, against the West Yorkshire outfit, who have slumped to fourth-bottom, following a dreadful run of form that eventually cost former manager Simon Grayson his job.

McCarthy stressed that his side would be heading up north with victory on their minds but, equally, emphasised the importance of avoiding defeat.

“It’s important we don’t get beat that’s for sure,” said McCarthy, who has taken 31 points from 19 games since taking over as Blues boss in November.

“We are not going there to draw the game and we will be positive and try and get a result, but it would not be the worst thing if we came away with a point.”

Robins has yet to taste victory in two games at the Huddersfield helm, with a lacklustre 4-1 home defeat to Wigan, in the FA Cup, preceding Tuesday night’s hammering.

The Town boss had a similar experience on his arrival at Portman Road, losing 5-0 and 6-0 in two of his first four games, so knows that his opposite number will be expecting a positive response.

“When we were beaten heavily, it (positive response) happened to us and it’s going to be a hard game,” he said.

“He (Robins) could try and keep it tight, which is what every manager wants anyway, or he could think that if he does that, and lets us take advantage, then that might not be the right approach.

“My approach would be to get in the opposition’s faces and get on top of them as they are one of our rivals. I wouldn’t let them settle or play.

“The pitch is not great at Huddersfield so I would make it a scrap and uncomfortable for us.”

McCarthy, pictured right, has no new injury worries ahead of the trip, meaning Richard Stearman and Lee Martin will both be in the squad.

Stearman dislocated a finger in Tuesday night’s defeat to Watford and has not trained since as a precaution, while Martin suffered with blisters on his return to the team against the Hornets.
