Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is unsure whether he will try to sign Toumani Diagouraga on a permanent basis this summer.
The French midfielder, 29, joined the Blues on a half-season loan from Championship rivals Leeds United at the end of January and has made 10 starts and two substitute appearances.
McCarthy has signalled his desire to sign Cardiff loanee Emyr Huws, but is yet to make up his mind on Diagouraga.
“He does a similar job to Skusey (Cole Skuse) in sitting,” said the Blues boss. “He might pass forwards a bit more than Skusey, but Skusey does that water carrying role that every team needs.
“I’ve got to be careful what I do because of the size of the squad and the budget I’m going to have – and I’m not quite certain on that yet.
Diagouraga missed last Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday with a groin injury and has returned to Elland Road. He still has another year on his deal.
