A number of players have already nailed down places in Paul Hurst’s starting XI, but others have yet to completely convince the Ipswich Town boss.

Hurst has used a total of 21 players in his three games in charge of the Blues, with changes expected again this afternoon when Aston Villa come to Portman Road.

“I think some have (secured places), I think overall if I come to pick the team there are some names I know will be on the team sheet and then maybe one or two others who are slightly debatable,” Hurst said.

“Then there are one or two more on the fringes hoping they might get an opportunity.

“I’ve seen quite a lot of positives still, it’s just you’ll have seen post match interviews where I am not going to throw those (positives) at you because I want results.

“I hate watching managers where it feels like they are trotting excuses out because that’s not my style, but in the cold light of day there are some things that have been good.

“We just need a result to back that up.”
