The transformation since the doom and gloom of derby day has been nothing short of sensational.

Saturday’s 2-0 victory at home to Rotherham United, thanks to two goals in the opening ten minutes from Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick, was Town’s fourth straight success, and fifth game unbeaten, since the catastrophe against the Canaries.

Prior to the fantastic four, the Blues picked up a well-deserved point from a daunting-looking trip to Derby County.

Manager Mick McCarthy is often at his best when the chips are down and the emergence of Jonathan Parr and debutant Teddy Bishop that day, lightened the mood.

Ahead of their trip to Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, the buoyant Blues are now in the play-off places, just three points off the Canaries who are perched on top of the table.

“Norwich deserved to beat us really, although the goal was offside,” said McCarthy.

“The reality is, they are the better team and I think they have got a better squad because they have spent chunks of money.

“I can get over that and if anyone gets upset about me saying it, unlucky, because that is a fact of life.

“We didn’t play badly though, we changed it (after the Norwich defeat) and have had a bit better balance.

“I think Johnny Parr and Tyrone (Mings) have added to it. Tyrone has stopped playing with the breaks on, he is getting forward, so that has helped.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy batted away rumours that Jonny Williams will arrive at the club for a second loan spell today.

The midfielder was left out of Crystal Palace’s 18-man squad at the weekend and it is understood he is on the verge of returning.

However, responding to quotes from Town managing director Ian Milne, who hinted new arrivals were imminent, McCarthy snapped: “I could say what is he (Milne) doing conducting press conferences before the game, I thought that was my job.

“Our lads are flying and I am not looking for anybody, I was asked that question the other day.

“If they want to send him across in the car tomorrow, I will take hold of him, mind.”
