Ipswich Town are closing in on the loan addition of Crystal Palace midfielder Jonathan Williams, according to reports in South London.
The 20-year-old – capped four times by Wales at senior level – had been much talked about since making his making his Eagles debut at the age of 17.
A 5ft 6in highly creative player who can play anywhere across the midfield, Williams was named Palace’s young player of the year for the 2012/13 campaign as Ian Holloway’s side earned promotion to the top-flight via the Championship play-offs.
He has been restricted to just two starts in the cups and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League this season though and, as a result, manager Tony Pulis has agreed to let him go out on loan until the end of the campaign.
Williams scored the first goal in a 2-1 victory for Palace’s Under-21 side at Portman Road on Monday night, with the South London Press reporting that Mick McCarthy – who watched that game – has beaten Charlton counterpart Chris Powell to the player’s signature.
