Ipswich Town will host Teddy Sheringham’s Stevenage in the first round of the Capital One Cup at Portman Road, while Colchester United will entertain Reading.
Town will be aiming to inflict revenge on League Two Borough, who defeated the Blues 2-0 at the same stage of the competition, at Broadhall Way, two years ago.
Stevenage, who lost in the semi-finals of the League Two play-offs in May, will be under new management in the form of former Tottenham and Manchester United striker Sheringham. He is being assisted by former Colchester midfielder Kevin Watson, who managed Maldon & Tiptree for a very short spell earlier this year.
Town, who reached the semi-final of the competition in 2011, eventually losing over two legs to Arsenal, will be attempting to get past the first round stage of the competition for the first time since 2012, having lost to an extra-time Izale McLeod strike at Crawley Town last season.
Another of Sheringham’s former clubs, Colchester United, last met Reading in any competition at home in October 2001, Kevin Rapley and Scott McGleish scoring in a 2-0 win for the U’s.
The ties will be played the week beginning August 10.
