Ipswich Town fans have been reacting to the news that striker target Marley Watkins has signed for Norwich City.
The 26-year-old – who can play wide or up front – rejected a new deal at Barnsley and will join the Canaries on a three-year deal when his Tykes contract expires at the end of the month.
New Norwich sporting director Stuart Webber said the Canaries had to battle a lot of competition for the front man, but didn’t say from where - Town had two six figure bids rejected for Watkins in the last two transfer windows.
Webber added: “We fought off really stiff competition to bring him here so I’m delighted. He scores all types of goals and is tactically very good. We’re really pleased to have got the deal over the line and are looking forward to working with him.”
Online, Town fans have reacted with a mix of anger, exasperation and total lack of surprise.
The Blues will have to look elsewhere now for their much-needed marquee striker, with the Blues understood to be interested in Rangers’ Joe Garner, Preston’s Jordan Hugill and Rotherham’s Danny Ward.
