Ipswich Town fans have been sharing their delight at the signing of number one transfer target Emyr Huws on social media.

The club announced this afternoon that they have signed the 23-year-old midfielder from Cardiff City on a four-year deal in a move which will be seen as a statement of intent by oft-maligned owner Marcus Evans.

It will be a significant, multi-million pound investment from the owner, who has already brought in £1m striker Joe Garner and utility defender Jordan Spence, with Manchester City winger Bersant Celina also set to sign on a season-long loan.

But it is Huws who will most capture the imagination and give fresh hope for next season.

He was deemed surplus to requirements by Cardiff boss Neil Warnock and returns to Portman Road where he quickly became a fans’ favourite, scoring three times in 13 games, during a four-month loan spell.

Llanelli-born Huws joined Cardiff from Wigan last summer, signing a three-year deal, but only made four appearances for the club before moving to Suffolk.

His volleyed goal to seal the season-best 3-1 win over Newcastle United on Easter Monday was one of the highlights of what was a miserable season.

With him on board, Town fans will be daring to dream of what the Blues could achieve next season, the final campaign of Mick McCarthy’s current contract.
