Ipswich Town’s Under-16s lost 3-0 against their Norwich City counterparts, at Portman Road last night, in the new-look Hospital Cup format.
The trophy – which used to be played for by both team’s first XIs up until 1990 – is now being contested as a youth team fixture.
Last night’s match watched by an enthusiastic crowd of just over 1,000, with goals from Benny Ashley-Seal (2) and Glenn Middleton helping the visitors to victory.
City made the brightest of starts and Middleton put the Norfolk side ahead after 11 minutes. Ashley-Seal’s rifled finish halfway through the first period made it two and the City striker made it three just after the break.
Both sides continued to play good football in a match which was a good advert for youth football.
