Mick McCarthy has expressed his regret over Stewart’s failure to make an impact at Portman Road and revealed the player will be moving on, although he will return for pre-season training.

Stewart is one of several wingers to have made little or no impact under McCarthy’s watch, with Alex Henshall, Jack Doherty and Dylan Connolly are also on that list.

“He’ll be back for pre-season, he was here (recently) and got weighed, his body fat was measured and got his programme for the summer.

“He’s in good shape at the minute, he’s not been playing, but he’ll come back,” added McCarthy.

“It’s always disappointing when a signing does not work out and it’s a reflection on me because I signed him, and a reflection on him, because he has got to perform.”
