Paul Hurst has admitted he is no nearer to adding to his Ipswich Town squad as the Blues boss looks to the loan market.

In an ideal world Hurst would like to bring in three players on temporary deals following the closure of the transfer window last week, with a striker, wide player and central defender thought to be on his shopping list.

But with three loan players already at the club, Hurst is reluctant to take his number of loanees over the five permitted in a matchday squad.

“No, lots of conversations about the ones trying to come in,” Hurst said.

“It’s similar to the transfer window. You speak to some clubs about possible targets and the player might be available but the club can’t do it at the minute as they need one in.

“You have to wait for them and look online to hopefully see some news where they’ve signed someone in that position and then we might get the green light then.”

Trevoh Chalobah and Tayo Edun are on season-long loans from Chelsea and Fulham respectively, while Janoi Donacien’s temporary move from Accrington Stanley will become permanent once work permit issues are resolved.

Hurst is also keen to send some of his younger players, including Tristan Nydam, out on loan, but admitted there have been no developments on that front either.

“No, I haven’t circulated them,” he said, when asked if he had sent a list out to clubs.

“It can work in very different ways. Everyone’s got an agent and I’m sure they’re making them aware.

“But if someone picks up the phone I’ll tell them the situation with certain lads and see what happens over the next couple of weeks.”

Hurst has been discussing whether Andre Dozzell would be best served by a temporary move away from Portman Road, with the Ipswich boss ultimately deciding the midfielder would benefit most from staying at the club.
